The Indian Call centres

                                                                      The Indian call centres

Life in the Indian call centres !!!! yeah. Get in any rickshaw , and ask him to take you to Mindspace, Malad. The rickshaw goes zooming out there, just be careful where you take your drive from, it hits the
pocket - Inflation is a big problem in the city. once you reach here, you see the huge expanse of these big buildings all over the place. huge big buildings , silver colored with the greyish tint all over the place. Its a haven for the Indians now,
they earn good salaries, they can enjoy a good lifestyle and also get to enjoy benefits which other Indians do not do , like a salary which was something that our fathers worked for years to acheive, but today college students start up with that salary. So its actually a boon to Indian society providing  jobs to the Indians from the last thirteen years . the fact of the matter is that call centers, as I have observed, opened India up to a whole new dimension of working.

The Indian call centres have brought some good benefits to the country not only as a employee provider. not only to the employees but also the companies associated with it, like the transport industry, the food industry, places for hiring, company help, hospitality industry where trainers and executives make their base. The call centres have also influenced the corporate industry in upgrading their infrastructure which used to be a mess and very ordinary ordinary. Sometimes offices were situated in dirty infested areas which would turn your mood off to go to work. But with the coming of the call centres things started getting better and the corporate has become better. Not that great, but its a start compared to what I've seen. Call centres are present in Mumbai, Gurgaon and Bangalore which are the big three states of the call centre industry. Besides them, there are call centres in pune and other states, but the big players are the ones above. So , its been a good influence in India in many ways, as there are also KPO ( Knowledge Process Outsourcing) Units wherein writing work is done and law transcipts are made for offices in the US. Plus, the basic being a source of stability for some families and also people who have worked in call centres have been able to set up their own enterprises.

Thats the good part about the call centres. However, there's the flipside too. Beginning with the timings, yeah the timings are the worst you could have. Timings are us or Austrailian, so shifts start in the evening or late night and go to graveyard shifts. Graveyard shifts start at 3 am in the morning , so timing is a great inconvenience. So if you are working in a call centre, the best shifts are the UK shifts which start in the afternnon or if you are working in the Australian shifts, take the later shifts because that would make it a morning shift, example, if the first shift in Austrailia is at 3 am, the later ones would be 6am or 7am. also, due to these irregular timings, the biological cycle is hampered  which could cause sleeping disorders or any other sicknesses. Also theres the problem of food  - call centrs give options of a lot of fast foods and many of the employees are consumers of fast food than normal nutritious food and this also affects health and there are a lot of obese people roaming around due to overconsumption of these items . the bad piles up,
there's more to know.

There's this thing about call centres - that they hire each and anyone. Everyone could join the call centre. So people come to the call centre from different walks of life, not from the upper classes, mostly from the middle and the lower classes. so a person staying in a good neighbourhood gets to interact with a person with a person living from the slums. A good mannered person comes to know what a savage culture is. You are introduced to a dog on the street, a rat of the gutters. People without culture, without manners , a dog breed. Many we shouldnt compare them to dogs - even dogs respond to your kindness. People out here are not interested in you at all. They do not have the decency to greet you, they are indifferent to your presence. Rats are actually the preffered word over here. they only come to speak to you if they are interested in getting some information. dishonesty is as good as drinking water to them. Twisting their tongues to sell products, disconnecting calls, speaking rudely with customers, - going to forming groups among themselves and also having multiple partners and probably multiple diseases is just part of their life. This is not for all, but a particular group that I talk about who actually grow in this industry. Because when a rat grows, he wants to breed and create many more like them. Similiarly is the case with the managers and team leaders in this industry.  They want more of their kind, the cheaters and liars - the low slum dwellers. And this problem is a big nuisance in the call centres, though many call centres do take required steps for background verification and trying to take more educated people, the problem has not been controlled very well. Groupism is a big problem in the call centre wherein people are mostly drunk and drug addicts
so you mostly tend to stay away from them even if they invite you. Then there are the characters with " The Diploma in  Bum Appreciation " who always speak to you with  the intention of passing information to the team leaders. theyre all over. Every company you go to, they sit with an opportunity  to paint their black white using you as a target. Add to this, there are problems that come from within the company itself where there is a lot of pressure and also incentive deals by the management which are actually twisters wherein most of the time you end up not getting any money, its like a fishing hook and most of the time, we are bait.

Yeah!! thats the fact about the call centre, a mixture of black and white fusing into a seamless grey. Its an industry that  I have been associated with for eight years. The industry though not the best people would like to work in is one that pays the bills and funds my own pursuits. I do hope thers a day when I will have my own studio for graphics and animation and acheive fame and money as a writer. And I wait with positive hope, giving it my best everyday to the dream. The call centre is the hand that has been the support to that dream.  I will always be obligated to the industry though and the work, though regarding the working atmosphere and people, there are no regards - except the particular few.
